This is a letter to Ellie's foster mother. Can YOU read it? Neither can I but luckily since I wrote the English version I know what it says. I have had the address for quite awhile but haven't sent anything. I just wasn't sure what to say and how to have it translated. Last week we were eating at our favorite Chinese restaurant. When the owner brought Ellie back to our table after taking her to the kitchen to show her around I asked her if she would mind translating a letter that I wanted to send to China. She was very happy to do it. I picked it up today and was just amazed at how it looked. The letter I typed was about a quarter of a page. Chinese writing is so intricate and beautiful. Wouldn't it be cool to be able to read Chinese?

That is awesome! How did you get their address? I've been meaning to write to Ava's orphanage hoping that they would send anything I wrote to her foster family. Are you sending pictures? Maybe they can give you more information about Ellie's first year.
Hello there. I stumbled onto your blog somehow, but was excited to see your letter, so I had to comment. I've been taking Mandarin for over a year now. Yeah -- don't be too impressed -- I'm failing -- but I did recognize about every 20th character.
Marcia, There was a man in Ellie's province who contacted parents through our orphanage yahoo group For a fee he would get her name and address. He also delivered pics and a short letter but it didn't have our return address. I was able to confirm her name through someone else, just to make sure I had the right info.
